Community Focus
Please take a moment to read the following information. The Community Focus page is the spotlight for Alerts, Charities, and other items of a sensitive nature. We are tied to a number of well-known charities (Hugs Across America and others), and we also focus on those in the community who need special assistance.
Anything you can give would be most appreciated.
Sincerely and with much gratitude,

"LARPer Attacked in Hate Crime"
Hi everyone,
On Saturday morning, in front of his home (in Portland, Maine) after walking home from a club, a friend of mine was attacked by two men. They said he looked like a fag right before they attacked him. He doesn't remember much else because of the concussion.
Two people happened to be nearby and stopped the attack, thankfully. My friend had swelling and bleeding of the brain. He has since been released home, but won't be doing much of anything for a while. His face and head are very swollen and battered.
I met this friend through LARPing. He's a very nice guy who over the last decade has come out of his shell to become a dancer, artist, and all around great guy. He never forgets a birthday, no matter how long it's been since you saw him last, and is always the first to offer help when someone needs it. His name is being withheld right now, until he's feeling better and decides if he wants to release it.
Like many artists, he doesn't have health insurance. He also doesn't have any disability insurance to help cover him while he's out of work. On top of this, he's still paying off medical bill from when he had kidney surgery a few years back.
A website has been created with a guestbook to send well-wishes and a link for anyone who would like to donate money to help him. The site is here:

At Chris H.'s suggestion (and with John's permission) I will also have a donation jar at the next Prophecy event for anyone who doesn't have Paypal but would like to help.
Thanks everyone,
Angelica
